In 2010, Auckland's local government was restructured. This resulted in the Auckland Regional Council and seven former territorial authorities (Rodney District, North Shore City, Waitakere City, Auckland City, Manukau City, Papakura District, and Franklin District) being replaced by a unitary authority, Auckland Council. The new Auckland Council has 13 wards, 21 local boards, and 18 subdivisions. Additional information on the new structure can be found on the Auckland Council website.
Many of the statistics produced by Statistics New Zealand will be affected by the changes in Auckland geography that came into effect on 1 November 2010. Because of the variety of collections we undertake, with different release schedules, a changeover to the new geography will not happen in a uniform way.
This webpage will advise users of data that is available on the new Auckland geography, and of statistics that are due to be released soon. Updates will be made as information becomes available.
