Business Practices and Performance

The Business Operations Survey collects information from a wide cross-section of New Zealand businesses to build a better understanding of a range of business practices and behaviours that may have some impact on business performance.

This paper presents key results from the Business Operations Survey on the performance of New Zealand businesses, the management practices being undertaken and the environment businesses are operating in. Results are provided separately for high and low performing businesses to allow conclusions to be drawn on which practices are more often undertaken by high performers than by low performers.

The Hot Off The Press information releases contain the initial release of data from the Business Operations Survey for 2005 and 2006. In addition, the report Innovation in New Zealand 2005 contains detailed results from the innovation section of the 2005 survey. This paper, however, focuses on business practices in 2005 and employment practices in 2006. The paper also includes key results on business performance and operating environments.
