The Government is committed to improving national environmental reporting in New Zealand and has been working to improve the way it is undertaken.
Introduced in 2014, the Environmental Reporting Act 2015 (the Act) came into force in June 2016. The Act makes responsibilities for environmental reporting explicit, and sets both the framework for the scope of reporting and timing for reporting products.
See the legislative history of the Act below.
- February 2014 – Environment Minister introduced the Environmental Reporting Bill.
- September 2015 – the Act was passed into law.
- June 2016 – the Act and topic regulations came into force.
