National Employment Indicator – information releases

The National Employment Indicator (NEI) provides an early indication of changes in total filled jobs over each month at the national level. It covers filled jobs that were paid wages or salaries in the calendar month by an employer who filed an Employer Monthly Schedule tax return.

National Employment Indicator releases cancelled

Statistics New Zealand has cancelled the NEI until further notice. The NEI information is collected for tax purposes; a review of the NEI identified issues when using the data for statistical purposes. We are working to assess its suitability for future statistical information.
