Key facts

In August 2012 compared with August 2011:

  • Visitor arrivals (178,300) were up 2,400. The biggest changes were in arrivals from:
    • China (up 2,900) 
    • Australia (up 2,800)
    • the United Kingdom (down 2,400).
  • Overseas trips by New Zealand residents (193,500) were up 2,400. The biggest changes were in departures to:
    • the United States (up 2,200)
    • Australia (down 3,500).

In August 2012:

  • Seasonally adjusted figures showed a net loss of 300 migrants.
