Loneliness

Why is this important for social statistics?

Humans are social creatures, and social contact is fundamentally important to us. Self-assessed loneliness shows whether people are happy with the amount and quality of social contact they have.

This indicator measures the proportion of New Zealanders aged 15 years and over who reported feeling isolated from others ‘all of the time’, ‘most of the time’, ‘some of the time’, or ‘a little of the time’ in the last four weeks.
