(HLF) Household Labour Force Survey

We have corrected some historical estimates in the Household Labour Force Survey (HLFS).

When we introduced the population rebase (including regional benchmarks) on 31 March 2015, we updated all series in Infoshare – however, the following breakdowns were not correctly updated:
• HLFQ.S2A - Labour Force Status by Ethnic Group by Regional Council (North Island and South Island breakdowns only) – December 2007 to December 2014
• HLFQ.S8C - Youth NEET by Regional Council by Age (North Island and South Island breakdowns only) – March 2004 to December 2014.

This includes both quarterly and annual estimates. The errors were isolated to the North Island and South Island totals and are unlikely to have affected the interpretation of a trend.

We have now loaded the corrected estimates to Infoshare, and have corrected the zipped csv file in the ‘Downloads’ box for this release.

We apologise for any inconvenience.

We will release an information page explaining the changes to the survey. We are publishing the back data for the services industries on 7 December 2015.
We modified the time series identifiers to include the full NZSIOC industry codes rather than a single alpha character for each series. We are discontinuing the existing Infoshare series.

 (DLE) Demography Life Expectancy
New Zealand Period Life Tables: 2012–14 published 8 May 2015

On 8 May 2015 we released new complete period life tables, including life expectancies by sex for the total population, Māori, non-Māori, and Pacific. This is the first time we've published Pacific life tables, making 2005–07 results available at the same time (DLEA.SC&&). This was possible because of an increase in the size of the Pacific population and new methods for deriving the life tables.

See New Zealand Period Life Tables: 2012–14.

While we’ve published a comparable 2005–07 series using the new 2012–14 methods, the 2005–07 results published in 2008 using the original method remains the official series.

New life tables supersede 2010–12 results
New Zealand Period Life Tables: 2012–14 supersedes the 2010–12 results, which we released in 2013 to cover the interim period. We’ve removed the 2010–12 series from Infoshare.

New Infoshare family
We created a new Infoshare family to handle the seven-year gap between the 2006 and 2013 Censuses. While still under Demography Life Expectancy (DLE) in Infoshare, the series is set up as an annual (DLEA) rather than five-yearly series (DLEC).

6 May  (QEX) Quarterly Employment Survey regional data for the March 2015 quarter will be released at a later date.

This delay will affect the following QEX Infoshare series:
QEXQ.SAR+++ - Average Hourly Earnings by Regional Council and Sex
QEXQ.SBR+++ - Average Weekly Earnings (FTEs) by Regional Council and Sex
QEXQ.SCR+++ - Average Weekly Earnings (Employees) by Regional Council and Sex
QEXQ.SDR+++ - Average Weekly Paid Hours (FTEs) by Regional Council and Sex
QEXQ.SER+++ - Average Weekly Paid Hours (Employees) by Regional Council and Sex
QEXQ.SFR++++ - Filled Jobs by Regional Council by Sex and Status in Employment
QEXQ.SGR++ - Full-Time Equivalent Employees by Regional Council and Sex
We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this.
6 May  (HLF) – Household Labour Force Survey

We’ve revised historical estimates of the sampling errors for the Household Labour Force Survey (HLFS).

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this.
5 May  (DMR) Marriage and Divorce Rates, (VSM) Marriages Civil Unions and Divorces
Marriages, civil unions and divorces changes
Several changes come into effect with the 'Marriages, civil unions, and divorces: Year ended December 2014' release on 5 May 2015:

• The series 'Marriage and Divorce Rates' (DMR) is affected by:
   • a change in the estimated population used (by age, sex, and marital status) for the June 2006–14 years. We revised it using new 2013-based population estimates.
   • a change in how we calculate marriage rates – from using just marriages as a proportion of the population, to using marriages and civil unions excluding transfers to and from civil unions (marriages + civil unions - transfers). Marriage rates will be revised from 2005 onwards. The series names continue unchanged.
  • a change in how we calculate divorce rates – from using just divorces as a proportion of the population, to covering all dissolutions of marriages and civil unions. Divorce rates will be revised from 2006 onwards. The series names continue unchanged.

• The series 'Marriages Civil Unions and Divorces' (VSM), 'Divorces by family court (Annual-Dec)' table will not be updated beyond the December 2013 year. This is due to a recent change at the Ministry of Justice, which means that family court information is no longer available.
 4 May  (BLD) Building Consents
The building consents data we published on Thursday 30 April 2015 included an error.

Building consents by region (Qrtly-Mar/Jun/Sep/Dec)
BLDQ.SFTZ1000C2A (Actual quarterly value of residential building consents) mistakenly contained seasonally adjusted values from 1995 onwards.
BLDQ.SFTZ1000C2S (Seasonally adjusted quarterly value of residential building consents) did not contain any data.

The data on Infoshare will be corrected at 10:45am on Monday 4 May.

In the meantime, we have corrected the data in the tables accompanying Building Consents Issued: March 2015.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
4 May  (SEP) Ready Mixed Concrete by region: March 2015 quarter (SEP+.SAF++)

April 2015
 30 April  (BLD) Building Consents
Building Consents Issued: March 2015 will be published with new time-series families on 30 April 2015.
We have created four new time-series families, and discontinued eight. The most used data will be easier to find within two new families: ‘building consents by region’ and ‘building consents by territorial authority and selected wards’. The new time series are backdated to April 1990, or to April 1965 for many national series.
We also updated three classifications: building type, institutional sector, and control. Within building types for dwellings, there are now separate codes for
• houses
• apartments
• retirement village units
• townhouses, flats, units and other dwellings.
The total value of consents for residential buildings, non-residential buildings, and all buildings are unchanged.
Other changes we made:
1. added trend series for new dwellings in four regions and two aggregated regions
2. replaced the seasonally adjusted non-apartment dwellings series with seasonally adjusted new houses
3. provided data for 13 Auckland wards, replacing the seven former territorial authorities.
See Implementing classification and other changes to 2015 building consents statistics for further details and new time series.

7 April  (ECT) Electronic Card Transactions
We are revising data for the Electronic Card Transaction (ECT) series. These revisions are in response to new data from one of our commercial data suppliers. All ECT series are affected by these revisions.

We are also introducing a new seasonal adjustment package (X-13-ARIMA SEATS) for the ECT series from the March 2015 month (published on 13 April 2015). This change affects all seasonally adjusted and trend series for ECT. For the first time, we will also be seasonally adjusting the quarterly fuel series.

On 7 April at 2pm we will release on our website:

• backdata for all ECT series up to February 2015 – this release will include the revisions and changes to seasonal adjustment

• an 'Electronic Card Transaction series – revisions and new seasonal adjustment method' paper.

March 2015
31 March  (HLF) – Household Labour Force Survey

Age-specific fertility rates by five year age group (Maori and total population) - Annual Mar, Jun, Sep, Dec
Age-specific fertility rates by single year of age (Maori population) - Annual Dec
Age-specific fertility rates by single year of age (Total population) - Annual Dec
Age-specific nuptial and ex-nuptial fertility rates - Annual Dec
Crude birth rate - Annual Mar, Jun, Sep, Dec
Pregnancy rates by 5 year age group - Annual Dec
Reproduction rates, December years (Maori and total population) - Annual Dec. Gross reproduction rates only. The net reproduction rate for December years 2012 to 2014 will be revised when complete period life tables for 2012–14 become available in May 2015.
Total fertility rate (Maori and total population) - Annual Mar, Jun, Sep, Dec
Age-specific death rates by sex, December years (total population) - Annual Dec
Crude death rate (Maori and total population) - Annual Mar, Jun, Sep, Dec
Standardised death rates (Maori and total population) - Annual Mar, Jun, Sep, Dec

Stillbirth rates and neonatal, post-neonatal, and infant mortality rates are not revised because they are calculated using birth and death registration data, not population estimates.
