Research being conducted using Statistics New Zealand microdata covers a wide range of topics.

Microdata research projects

All research is conducted in a secure environment by approved researchers who have signed a declaration of secrecy, as required by the Statistics Act 1975, to ensure confidentiality of the data. All research outcomes (including seminars and publications) use data that has been confidentialised to ensure that no individual person or business can be identified.

Expert Data Users News – information for the more intensive users of statistics. These newsletters are compiled approximately every four weeks and cover upcoming releases, changes to methodology, and other items of interest.

Classification Coding System – a tool that can be used to code all of Statistics New Zealand's standard classifications and for geographic coding. Specifically the system provides an automatic coding function and a means to write output to MS Access or MS Excel.

Classification Code Finder – a tool to match a keyword or code to a category in a classification.

StatsMaps – a free web-based tool that shows the boundaries used for the 2013 Census, including the regions, towns or cities, area units, and meshblocks. Links are provided to facts about each area.
