Statistics NZ provides CSV files containing the latest available data for entire subjects from Infoshare and for selected groups of datasets from NZ.Stat. Customers can easily download a data file without having to carry out multiple extracts from our Infoshare or NZ.Stat databases. We also provide other datasets in CSV format, such as Census, Crime and Overseas merchandise trade.
What are CSV files?
CSV files are text files containing lines of data records in a defined format that can be easily read into other programs.
Note: Although CSV files may open by default in Excel, they are not designed as Excel files. If CSV files are opened in Excel, certain information (eg codes with leading zeros) could be missing. Ideally CSV files should be imported into a database that has been designed to preserve the CSV format.
CSV files for Infoshare subjects cover a complete subject by Time Series ID, Period, Table Name and Variable.
CSV files for NZ.Stat tables are selected NZ.Stat tables in CSV format. The file structure follows the NZ.Stat table structure for each table.
Other CSV files are available for data not generally covered by the table structures in Infoshare or NZ.Stat. The subjects covered include Census data, Crime analysis, and Overseas Merchandise Trade (HS10).
