Employment indicators: March 2022
Correction to regional series for filled jobs
An error has occurred that impacts the regional series for filled jobs in the West Coast and Canterbury regions from the start of the series in May 2019. A postcode was incorrectly allocated to Westland when it should have been allocated to Selwyn. This error has been corrected and the revised data published in this release.
The revision has resulted in fewer filled jobs in the West Coast region and more in the Canterbury region. The table below shows the impact of the correction on the March 2022 month as an example.

Gross earnings
Actual gross earnings on an accrual basis for the March 2022 month were $13.7 billion, compared with $13.0 billion for the March 2021 month.
There are two different ways of calculating total monthly earnings. The first is with earnings paid on a cash basis. It covers the amount paid in the reference month. The second is calculated on an accrual basis where earnings are allocated proportionally to the period in which it was earned. The accrual method removes the volatility of monthly data, for example a fortnightly pay period might occur twice in some months and three times in other months. This series will not be directly comparable to the cash basis due to a shorter time series and minor revisions in the back data.
Gross earnings on a cash basis can still be accessed with Infoshare.
Enterprise counts fell 0.2 percent in March
The number of enterprises on the Stats NZ business register (a register of all economically significant enterprises in New Zealand) fell by 1,080 (0.2 percent) to 566,337 in March 2022 from February 2022. There were 11,205 entries within the month, with 12,288 exits.
